NIGERIAN CHURCHES' NEGATIVE IMPACT

Nigeria is a country that is predominantly religious, with Christianity being the most widely practiced religion in the country. However, in recent years, there have been growing concerns about the role that Nigerian churches are playing in the socio-economic development of the country. It is increasingly becoming clear that many Nigerian churches are contributing to the problems facing the country rather than helping to solve them. One of the most significant ways in which Nigerian churches are contributing to the problem of Nigeria is through their hospitals and schools. Many of these institutions are built with money contributed by poor members of the church. However, the irony is that these same poor members cannot afford to use the hospitals or send their children to the schools that they have helped to build. This is a clear indication of the misplaced priorities of many Nigerian churches. Another way in which Nigerian churches are contributing to the problem of the country is through their preaching. Instead of preaching the word of God to the people, many Nigerian pastors are more focused on motivating their members on how to succeed. They promise their members that God will bless them, but instead of waiting on God, they perch on the members of the church. This has led to a situation where many Nigerian pastors are living in opulence, while their members are struggling to make ends meet. Furthermore, Nigerian churches are contributing to the problem of the country by consuming the time of their members. Many churches hold services even on workdays, which means that their members are forced to miss work to attend church services. This has led to a situation where many Nigerian workers are not productive, as they spend most of their time in church rather than at work. In conclusion, it is clear that many Nigerian churches are contributing to the problems facing the country. Rather than helping to solve the problems of poverty, poor healthcare, and lack of education, they are exacerbating them. However, it is important to note that not all Nigerian churches are the same. There are many churches in the country that are doing their best to make a positive difference in the lives of their members and in the country as a whole. Therefore, it is essential for Nigerians to carefully evaluate the churches they attend and ensure that they are contributing positively to their lives and to the development of the country. As the saying goes, "I love their Christ, but I don't like their Christianity."
