THE UZAGIR

The name "uzagir" is a mispelt Tiv word of "uzagigh" it is one of the most practices of sexual immoralities discovered recently in makurdi the Benue state capital in the late 2022. Though the practice exist long ago before its name was discovered. It is the act of having sexual affair with aged women to ease cost, run from responsibilities or gain unfair advantages. When talked about Uzagir we are generally referring to aged women who are no longer in their 30s. As rightly said by Egyptian Ciro a popular Tiv singer: Uzagir mba a ver ver yol ga! This means Uzagir do not have problem, unlike the slay queens Uzagir will not complain that their gas has finished, Uzagir will not ask for urgent 2k, Uzagir will not ask you to subscribe for them, Uzagir will not ask for Shawama, pizza, birthday gifts, Valentine's gifts, Easter Money nor clothes, and above all Uzagir go as far as feeding and clothing their partners. What give birth to the practice of Uzagir? Back then in Tiv land virginity was a priceless gift to anyone who was fortunate enough to got married to a virgin girl, mothers who gave their virgin daughters out in marriages were rewarded handsomely by their sons -inlaw After the honey moon the son in-law gives feedback to his mother in-law whether he found his wife as a virgin in bed or not. If he found his wife as a virgin in bed, then he buys a wrapper or a big catfish and present it to the mother inlaw as a symbol of appreciation to the mother inlaw for preserving his wife's virginity. If he did not, he buys a wrapper or catfish and made many holes on the catfish or wrapper and present it to the mother inlaw to show that the mother inlaw was not responsible enough to protect her daughter's virginity. Mothers- inlaw ululated and danced out side the house when catfish and wrappers were presented to them without holes, and showed it to their follow women in the village, but when it was presented with holes it became shameful to her for being an irresponsible mother. Ikòòr is a snail shelf, a hole was made on it to insert rope so as it could be tied round a virgin girl's waist. So as anyone that deflowered the girl without duely paying her bride price will be greatly affected by waist pain that leads to malfunction of his manhood. Modernization and adoption of Christianity have caused us harm than good, until the adoption of Christianity and modernization the practice was thrown away and this give birth to the high rate of sexual immorality in Tiv land as there is no penalty for anyone who deflowered a person's daughter without duely getting married to her. When many guys began to hunt for sex as the ikòòr was outdated, it occurred to the girls that they can use their God given free gift and make money, therefore they began to trade their private parts with money, and that birthed the idea of going for anyone who has money rather than who they love. Today, many young girls Know that the money they are looking for can't be find from young guys, therefore they no longer date their mates but sugar daddies. They live absolutely on the hands of sugar daddies as nail polish on one's nails. That is why you see a young girl telling a guy that can feed her father, her mother and her entire siblings that I am not your class, while the guy has than her father. Just like a little girl for the love of being moved in a car on a car with her father without being certain where the father was taking her to, asked: " daddy where will we be when we reach where we are going?" so are they, for the love of money they embark on a journey of relationship with old men without knowing where it will land them to. Good character, hard-working and handsomeness were the criteria for getting married to a lady or having her as a partner. There was true love, ladies were willing to start at the scratch with their men and build up with them but now they want to reap where they have not sown, they look for already made men even when there is no love. Today the the word love is an old song to many young ladies, acceptance fee and taxes like: my gas has finished, my data has finished, my house rent has expired, I need Christmas clothes, birthday cake, Valentine's gift among other taxes are being paid in the school of relationship. In Benue and indeed Nigeria at large girls believe that relationship is an avenue to extort money from men, once you ask them out they quit the types of foods they eat from their parents houses and go for modernized food like fried rice, roasted fish, Shawama, pizza among other foods that their parents and siblings at home have never tasted. As these hecavy responsibilities are shoveled on guys in relationship, they in turn in order to ease cost and these responsibilities decided to go for Uzagigh (aged women) who are very affordable. Among these Uzagir are those slay queens that use to tell their mates that I am not your mate, I am not your class, I cannot date a broke guy, Uzagirs are like yesterday copies of newspapers which are only useful for wrapping corn nor Surya. They are very affordable. There is no different between one who date them and one who buys a newspaper at 6:pm. Many guys no longer go for their mates in relationship because of the fear of cost and these responsibilities therefore they go for Uzagir who will in turn spend on them. In the same way sugar daddies rent houses for slay queens, Uzagirs rent houses for their partners, Uzagir buy food stuff, and pay their partners bills. Certainly, many guys have wrongly taken advantage of the charity and support offered by Uzagirs, they go as far as having two to three Uzagirs as their sources of income forgetting that they are enslaving theirselves. some guys are caged and fed by Uzagir, they are protected jealously; Uzagir do not entertain seeing them closer to young girls. Is this practice a good one? Absolutely no! The best way to understand the hazard of Uzagir is understand the Tiv son title: "uker jogobi" the song says : " U ker jogobi yo kwagh doo jogobi, u yav a jogobi yo kwagh nyoho jogobi, u pav a jogobi Sha mfe na ga, zenden yoon u ngu kpen a ooo. The song literally mean you are in relationship with Uzagir, Uzagir is happy, you have sex with Uzagir and Uzagir enjoys it, you have separated with Uzagir at a time she does not wants to part with you. You should already be announcing everywhere that you are going to die. When you part with Uzagirs they look for ways to bring you back both physical and spiritual, but if their effort to bring you back seems abortive Uzagir look for transportation to ensure that you embark on a journey of no return.Uzagir is a wrong practice that shouldn't be entertained say no to Uzagir.
